Destin Beach Vacation | Top 20 Things To Do

Top 20 Things To Do On Your Destin Vacation:

Destin Beaches are famous for the beautiful sugar white sands and calm emerald green waters! Spring time and early summer temperatures hover in the 70s and 80s with the water temperature only a couple of degrees cooler. An inviting vacation destination, Destin surrounds you with the natural beauty of the Gulf of Mexico as well as the Southern Hospitality it’s become known for. Accommodating a wide variety of tastes and budgets, you can experiment with world class fine dining to down home cooking. Named to “World’s Luckiest Fishing Village”, it goes without saying the seafood if phenomenal.

Here is our list of favorite things to do in Destin!

 Beach Chill
20. DO NOTHING! – it may seem obvious… but you’re here on vacation! Most of the resorts have beach chair rentals and every store in town sells them. Get a chair, a cool drink (no glass containers please), a good book, some sun tan lotion and go chill by the water. A perfect way to start your Destin Beach vacation is to unwind and recharge your batteries.

 Crab Island Trampoline
19. Crab IslandRent a Pontoon boat, a see-through canoe or jet ski and go hit Crab Island. A favorite party spot of locals and visitors alike, Crab Island is in knee deep water and all summer long has barges serving up food, drink and music to keep the party going. Anchor just a few yards north of the Marler Bridge and let your hair down!

 Sand Castles
18. Build a Sand Castle – With a couple of beach buckets and solo cups you can create a work of art! If you are really intense and want to impress your friends and family… go see our local sand castle master and sign up for lessons!

 Destin Dolphin
17. DOLPHINS! – There are a few Dolphin Cruises that will take you on a giant speed boat directly to where the wild dolphins swim. If you prefer a little more relaxed approach, go the Gulfarium and experience shows and exhibits of all the local sea life!

16. Go Snorkeling – One of the best things about our crystal-clear water and abundant sea life is that both contribute to unforgettable snorkeling! There are a number is snorkeling tours available for vacationing families and they are sure to create memories that will last a lifetime! Visit Destin Snorkel to book your dive.

Pirate Ship
15. Be a Pirate – most people forget that the Gulf Coast was one of the favorite haunts of pirates. Re-live the pirate experience at Harborwalk Village. A full-sized replica pirate ship is docked there complete with pirates and wenches! Take excursions in search of pirate treasure and learn to be a member of the crew. Learn to sword fight, sing some sea shanties and fire the cannon!

14. Watch the fireworks! – Huge fireworks displays are put on at the Harborwalk Village and The Village at Baytowne Wharf in Sandestin. These vibrant and colorful displays are put on every week in the summer and on every National Holiday. If you’re in town for the 4th of July, you won’t be disappointed Check the web sites for scheduled times.

13. Visit The Destin History & Fishing Museum – A chill indoor activity is to stop by the museum and explore the history of “The World’s Luckiest Fishing Village”. A perfect way to spend a “sunburnt” day… or the rare rainy day.

 Big Kahunas Destin
12. Water Park – Get out of the sand and spend a day at Big Kahuna’s Lost Paradise! Surf, slide, float and swim with no sand! Another great day of rides, slides and adventures. It’s like a vacation inside a vacation! See their website for details.

11. Go Karting – fly around the large track, or take the slow lane on the smaller kiddie track. This fun family spot features bumper cars, mini-golf, bungee jumping and a kid’s carnival playground.

10. Feed GatorsFudpuckers has been a popular destination in Destin for over 30 years. Great food and drinks at family friendly prices AND eighty alligators that hang out on “Gator Beach” and you can feed them from a (safe) upper deck.

9. Shakes – A Destin icon, Shakes has the very best milkshakes on the coast. Their other offerings are also awesome… but you can’t take a vacation to Destin without getting a shake from Shakes! Trust me on this one.

8. Splash – in the fountains at Destin Commons. Interactive geyser fountains may be found at Destin Commons and are a favorite of kids of all ages! You’ll also find fashionable boutiques, restaurants and a beautiful movie theater to enjoy while at The Destin Commons. Destin Commons was recently voted the best shopping in Destin.

 Silver Sands
7. Shopping – anyone? A short trip down 98 east of Destin you’ll find the Silver Sands Outlets. Seriously discounted prices from major brands. You can spend days just going from shop to shop and saving tons!  With discounts of up to 70% on designer brands this is a must do for the family’s power shopper!

6. Playground – at The Village at Baytowne Wharf. Take the kids to the coolest playground they’ll ever see, complete with an antique carousel. Featuring trampoline jumps, a shooting gallery, an obstacle course and a game arcade, you can make a day out of your trip to Baytowne then settle into one of the many family friendly restaurants for a great dinner.

5. Bike or Hike – the trails of South Walton. Thousands of acres comprise the Point Washington State Forest along scenic highway 30A. Miles of wild trails require a sturdy bike or good hiking boots. An 18-mile paved bike path runs from Dune Allen to Rosemary Beach for a more relaxed ride.

4. Go Crabbing – at night. Kid’s love catching the little white ghost crabs that come out after dark! They aren’t edible, but are easily caught by hand, with a net or bucket with a red filtered flashlight. Did you catch them on your family vacation when you were a kid? Red filtered flashlights don’t interfere with sea turtle nesting!

 McGuires Irish Pub
3. Eat – an amazing meal (or four)! We just don’t have the room to list all the 5 star restaurants in town. The seafood is amazing, but we also have the best steak house in Florida. If you want to take a break from the seafood for one night while in town, try McGuire’s Irish Pub. The food will knock your socks off… just be careful of those green drinks!

 Gulf Side Trail Rides
2. Ride a Horse – an unforgettable vacation experience, Arnett’s Gulfside Trail Rides has a 20-acre horse ranch that adjoins the 13,000+ acre Point Washington State Forest. Experienced trail bosses lead you down meandering trails through scrub forest and pristine marshy wetlands.

 Family Vacation Beach Portrait
1. Family Beach Portrait – Of course the number one thing to do while on vacation in Destin is to have your family’s portrait taken on our beautiful beaches! For the most beautiful portraits, we highly recommend sunset or even sunrise lighting and we love the beaches at Henderson Beach State Park in the heart of Destin.
